“Your future is created by what you do today, not tomorrow”

-Robert Kiyosaki

A lot of people prevent themselves from being successful and a great future by putting things back, If you’re going to do something do it sooner than later. If you have time to do it now why not? There’s no need for excuses, excuses will only hold you back from things you are capable of achieving. Have a strong mindset and make yourself capable of getting off the coach to do something that needs to be done.

For example, if you are trying to lose weight, don’t wait for tomorrow to make the lifestyle change, start eating healthier NOW and work out as SOON as you have free time, the fat is not going to trim itself away.

Another example, if you are looking for a job, sooner is better than later, the sooner you go out and look for a job the sooner you can get that paycheck you really want or need and the sooner you can gain the experience you want. You are only loosing precious time by waiting.

“When I was teaching basketball, I urged my players to try their hardest to improve on that very day, to make that practice a masterpiece.

This rule is even more important in life than basketball. You have to apply yourself to the task of becoming a little better each and every day over a period of time, you will become a lot better. Only then will you be able to approach being the best you can be. It begins by trying to make each day count and knowing you can never make up for a lost day.”

-John Wooden

When you are practicing or attempting to do or learn something, you should do it like if it’s the real deal, try your hardest, because only when you try your hardest is when you’ll improve so much that your level of “hardness” that used to be there, is not the same. You will improve greatly, try to get everything down to perfection and within a certain amount of time, it will become perfection, but you must do your absolute best.

Tip 3: Do Research

Literary critics have written vast numbers of analytical and critical pieces on countless books. If you’re having trouble understanding a particular text, do some research and see what knowledgeable sources have to say about it. In addition to increasing your comprehension, you’ll also be showing initiative, something teachers always like to see. Always use legitimate and scholarly sources, not condensed study guides. Going the extra mile in your research elevates your achievement 10-fold.

“Every time I’ve done something that doesn’t feel right, it’s ended up not being right.”

When you feel like something is not the right thing to do, it’s because its not. Most of the time you are taking a gamble and hoping it will be the right thing to do but in all honestly if you don’t feel right doing so it’s because it’s not the right thing to do. There are also times where something you do doesn’t feel right and that’s because you know it isn’t right, don’t do what isn’t right, do what’s right, because it’s the RIGHT thing to do.
For example, if you don't feel right when you are making a decision of whether to go to practice or not and you choose not to, you know that decision was wrong if you don't have a proper excuse.

The Three Don’ts

Don’t Whine. Don’t Complain. Don’t make excuses.

-John Wooden

Don’t whine, complain, or make excuses. These are just you trying to lag or prevent something that needs to happen from happening.

For example, if you are in a sport and your coach tells you to do something, do it.

If you don’t do it or complain, your coach will get irritated and might give you consequences, as well as if your whine or make excuses. No one likes anyone who whines, but coach in tired.. But coach my calf’s burn.. You’re tired and your calf’s burn for a reason, your gaining muscle, its productive, don’t whine, complain or make excuses.

3. Set Attainable Goals

If you’re having trouble writing a 35-page paper for class because it seems like such a big job, don’t focus on that final number. Break the paper down and consider each section of your paper individually. You can handle any project in small chunks.

4. Find a Social Support Network
Create a group of people around you who want to help you succeed. Mentors can be teachers or family friends who can give you guidance and help you develop new skills. Counselors can help you with planning your courses and starting to explore colleges. You can also each out to friends and peers who can motivate you by listening and sharing ideas.

“The Three Nevers”

Never Lie. Never Cheat. Never Steal.

-John Wooden

Three things you should never do is lie, cheat, or steal. These 3 things are very harmful not only to yourself but society and those around you. When you lie you are giving a false statement or impression and that will never be productive, and it will eventually catch up to you and you will pay for it accordingly. When you cheat you are not just cheating what you are directly cheating in, but you are also cheating yourself, because whatever you did cheating, you weren’t able to accomplish by yourself, so you are cheating yourself of experience and achievements as well. When you steal, you did not earn that item, you simply got it in a wrongful manner, obtaining that item is not an accomplishment because you did not obtain it in a righteous or honorable manner.

For example, if you win a championship because you cheated in the roster and put in alumni, did you really win the championship? No. You simply obtained a championship in a wrongful manner and cheated in order to do so, this will eventually catch up to you and fairly quickly as well, and the consequences will be harsh.

Tips for Staying Motivated

Tips 1-2

To succeed in high school and college, you have to do your best at all times. But sometimes it’s hard to stay motivated, even when you really care about the work you’re doing. Here are five ways to stay on the right track.

1. Focus on High-Impact Activities

The key to success in school is staying focused on your course work. Make a list to get an overall picture of your workload before you start to tackle any of it. Then, make a plan. Although it’s tempting to do the simplest assignments first, those that take more time and effort to accomplish are probably the ones that you’ll learn the most from.

To determine what your priorities are, rank your assignments in the order of their importance. Then rearrange your time and devote more energy toward those that have the greatest impact on your course work and grades. For example, even though all homework assignments are important, studying for a midterm exam takes priority over writing a paragraph for English class. As you complete each task, think of it as another step on your way to college success.

2. Create New Challenges

Changing your approach can help you stay interested in what you’re doing. If you’ve been given an assignment similar to one you’ve done in the past, think about it in a different way. If you wrote an essay for a creative writing assignment last year, try a poem this time. For book reports pick a history book instead of another biography.

“You have only always to do what is right. It will become easier by practice, and you enjoy in the midst of your trials the pleasure of an approving conscience.”

-Robert E. Lee

You can always choose the right, the option is always there. Whether you choose it or not is up to you, you will gain the most from choosing the right, maybe not in a materialistic manner but in a spiritual way. When you are doing the correct thing, you will feel good about yourself and about your life, this is because you conscience knows that you are doing what is correct and it appreciates you doing so because it is what your conscience wants, you don’t want to feel bad, and this is what will happen if you do not do the correct action. Choose the right and be the champion you are meant to be.

For example, if you steal from someone or somewhere, your conscience will not be approving, and it will haunt you for your wrong doing, now if you chose the right and obtained a materialistic item in a rightful manner you will have an approving conscience and feel great.

Take Advantage of Any Free Time

If you have a study period or a long bus ride, use the time to review notes, prepare for an upcoming class or start your homework. Flash cards are a great learning tool. They are easy to make, easy to handle, and are a marvelous tool to help you learn and remember anything. Punch a hole in the upper left corner of each index card and connect the stack of your flash cards with a ring. Then the cards are bound and not flopping around. Flash cards bound like this act

Study with a friend

Get together with friends and classmates to quiz each other, compare notes and predict test questions. Consider joining a study group.

Communicate

If you have concerns about the amount or type of homework you have, you may want to talk to your family, teachers or counselor. They can help you understand how much time you need to allot for homework and how to manage your tasks.

If you are right and are doing what is right then that can only benefit you, it will never come back and haunt you, you will have people looking up to you because you were righteous and great.

Take Control of Homework

So It Doesn’t Control You

Part 2

Keep Things in Perspective

Know how much weight each assignment or test carries, and use your time accordingly. Don’t waste time, but be wise and smart. Doing the most important things first is being wise and smart.

Get More Involved

Keep your mind from wandering by taking notes, underlining sections, discussing topics with others or relating your homework to something you’re studying in another class. Learn actively and not passively. Be anxiously engaged in your studies and you will have a great experience. Demonstrate a good attitude toward home assignments, and you will begin to love doing it.

Organize the Information

People process information in different ways. Some people like to draw pictures or charts to digest information, others prefer to read out loud or make detailed outlines. Try to find the methods that work best for you. Ask your teacher for recommendations if you’re having trouble.

“Character is higher than intellect.”

-Ralph Waldo Emerson

Character is higher than intellect, this is true. Personality is a lot more important and better than intelligence or a strong brain. A strong personality and character can lead you to stronger and more righteous things than a strong brain. What’s the point of being smart if you are not using it to you advantage and to the betterment of the world? Now however if you are using it for bad reasons then that is when it would be better if you were not even smart at all, there is no point in being smart if you aren’t going to use it for what’s right. Now if you have a good personality or character, you will most likely always use it for what is right (best) and that will lead you to being a better person in turn creating a better world by bettering yourself.

Take Control of Homework

So It Doesn’t Control You

Part 1

Although very few students love homework, it does serve a purpose. Homework helps you:

·         Reinforce what you’ve learned during the day.

·         Build study habits that are essential in college.

·         Prepare for your classes.

·         Get a sense of progress.

Here are some tips to help you deal with homework more efficiently and effectively.

Set the Mood

Create a good study area with everything you need (for example, a calculator). If you don’t have a quiet place at home, try your school or local library.

Know Where to Begin

Even if you don’t have homework every night, use the time to review notes. If sitting down to work is part of your normal routine, you’ll approach it with less dread. Also, you’ll become a pro at using time productively.

“I think it better to do right, even if we suffer in so doing, than to incur the reproach of our consciences and posterity.”

It is best to do what is right although we must suffer doing so, such in taxes, some people try to evade taxes and they are choosing the wrong by doing so. They believe taxes are just a way the government squeezes every single dollar they can out of them, however this is not true. Taxes is the way the government earns its revenue, without their revenue the government would not be able to function and we would all suffer from such, choose the right, do what has to be done, because it has to be done.

For Review

Once you’ve done all of the above, you’ll find you’ve created your own personalized study guide. Cover the main section of the page and use the key words and questions in the left margin as a quiz.

Stick to It

Review your notes the day you take them and all your notes once a week. That way, you won’t need to study as much when it’s test time.

You’ve been doing the work all along.

Try out the Cornell system, but if it doesn’t work for you, experiment with other methods. Ask your classmates how they take notes or ask a teacher for advice. Taking good notes requires practice, like any other skill. And the more you work at it now, the more prepared you’ll be to take notes in college.

He was caught and is going to serve a term of 3 years in jail and 5 years of probation.

Reflection:

Tony did something very unacceptable not only did he lay his hands on a woman but he dragged her and kidnapped her, this is not math, a lot of wrongs do not counter each other to a positive, he should’ve realized what he was doing was not right. This is just evidence of no matter how good you are at something you have to be righteous otherwise you’ll just go downhill and once you go downhill is hard to climb up. CTR!

If you don’t understand something, get help from your teacher or classmates.                                                                                                      After you’ve reviewed all your notes from class, in the left-hand area of the page write down key words and questions your teacher might ask on a test.                                                                                                                          At the bottom of each page, write a summary of the notes. This helps you digest what you’ve learned. It also improved your memory of the material for the long term and for tests down the road.

One approach that has been proven effective is called the Cornell Note-Taking System. Here are some of its methods. Start by using the main section of your page to take down your notes during class. Be sure to leave space on the left side of the page and the bottom. Things to keep in mind:

1.       Get the speaker’s main points. Don’t write down every word you hear.

2.       Leave blanks in your notes to add explanations later.

3.       Organize as you write. Pay attention to cues such as repetition and emphasis.

4.       Indicate main and support points as you go.

5.       Jot down key vocabulary, important facts and formulas.

6.       Ask questions. If you’re confused, it’s better to ask while the material is fresh in your mind.

I love it. Yesterday I had a game against Norco and I played with La Mirada. The final report of the game is that La Mirada (us) won 5-4 the reason why we won is more interesting. The game consists of about 4 quarters, the first quarter we were done by 2 goals then we scored one and made it 1-2 then on the second quarter we scored twice and made it 3-2, the third quarter they scored twice and made it 3-4, the last quarter was the most intense one. I started playing short pole to increase or odds of scoring and I ended up scoring the tying goal, making the score 4-4. This lead us to going into overtime ( 4 minutes ) and sudden death, which means the first team so score would win, we ended up scoring first and won<3. This is extremely exciting and inspiring because I have a tournament this upcoming Saturday so that’ll help boost my moral for the tournament.

Getting the most out of high school and college means studying hard and using your time in class wisely. An effective note-taking strategy can help you do both. Here are the basics.

Stay Organized

It may seem obvious, but your class notes can only help you if you can find them. When you’re taking notes be sure to:

·         Keep all your notes in one place.

·         Date and number pages; keeping them in order makes it easier to understand them later.

Before Class

What Woodrow Wilson means by this quote is, he will not start a battle over something that is right but he will do his best to make sure that the right thing is done.

An example for this is, Equal rights for all races, this is something someone who fights for the right will fight for, because all humans were created equality and we’re all meant to live it equally.

Distance Education: Is a Virtual Classroom for You?

Part 4 of 4

Emphasis on the Written Word

Most of the communication, as well as the course work, in distance-learning classes is written. That’s a plus, because the focus on the written word gives you the opportunity to develop as a writer – and strong writing skills are essential to academic success. However, if writing is a serious weakness for you, virtual learning may not be the best educational option until you improve your skills. Yes, most of distance education is the written word; therefore, you need to be a good reader, love to read, and love writing also. Most of your assignments will be written and submitted to the instructor in the written format. Your penmanship needs to be excellent, spelling great, sentence structure above average, vocabulary extraordinary. You need to have online access with reliable equipment. If your Internet communications at home isn’t working, you can’t do online education from home and will need to go someplace where you do have access to the internet.

Decide Whether It’s Right for You

Distance education isn’t for everyone, but it just might be for you. You really should seek it out and give it a try. You never know until you try. You might even fall in love with distance education. While distance education may be the perfect alternative for some students, it’s not the right choice for everyone. So carefully consider your unique needs and interests and give distance education a try; then, decide if it is right for you.

There is no point focusing your life on what has passed, you cannot do anything about your future, except prepare yourself for it with what you are doing in the present time, If you are being extremely productive then you are preparing yourself for what the future will bring, otherwise when the future comes and its responsibilities and duties that come along with it you will not be prepared.

Don’t be one of those people that say they will start working out next week, what is the need for that? Start working out as soon as possible; there is no start date that is set.

Challenging Aspects of Distance Education’

·         Lack of in-person interaction: Some educators argue that both teacher-student and student-student contact are essential to learning. In a distance-learning classroom, you may be able to participate in class discussions online in chat rooms, message boards or Web conferences – but it’s not the same as being with other students in a classroom.

·         Different levels of quality: Many distance-education programs supply an excellent learning, experience, but others may not.

Research any program before signing on to make sure it’s rigorous enough. If you are choosing your own program, look into its accreditation before enrolling.

·         The need to self-start: Distance education lets you make your own schedules. If you have a hard time getting motivated, this might not be the ideal educational setting for you.

Positive Aspects of Distance Education

·         Independence and time management: Taking courses online lets you hone your ability to work on your own. You also gain experience in managing your time efficiently.

·         A Flexible schedule: Schools can only provide a certain number of class periods in a single school day, and there may not be enough time for you to take everything you want. Because distance education lets you take classes outside regular school hours, it gives you the flexibility to explore all your areas of interest.

·         Advances and specialized classes: Some schools can’t provide advanced or specialized classes. Distance education gives you the chance to gain experience in areas that would otherwise remain out of reach.

Summary:

Speed walking is a very competitive sport, so competitive that it may cause people to break under stress. This is what occurred to Alex Schwazer. Alex had previously won a gold medal and it was his job to defend the gold medal, he was so stressed out and worried about winning that he used dope to enhance his performance while speed walking, when he went to the Olympics, a month after he began doping, he won the gold medal; first place. One day after he won the gold medal he was caught because of the blood test they took from him the day prior to the Olympics. He was greatly remorseful of doping and regretted it, he feels much better that it is out of the box now.

Reflection:

What Alex Schwazer did was very wrong, he should of never doped. It was obvious that he had the potential to win the gold medal without doping and he still chose to do so. He felt so morally wrong that he was actually relieved when he was caught. This goes to show how stressful doing illegal substances can be. Don’t harm your body, choose the right and stay away from drugs.

You may want to take a class that your high school doesn’t offer. Under some circumstances, you can still enroll in the class – through distance learning. Distance education means taking a class without being physically present where it is being taught. Internet-based technology lets students participate in lectures and class sessions online from almost anywhere.

Some high schools agree to recognize distance-learning credits when they don’t have the resources to offer a course themselves. Distance education is often used to increase options in rural areas and for AP courses. For you, it might mean doing self-tutorial at home in the evening, or participating in a class that is 1,000 miles away, along with other high school students. Additional Tips

Although working and going to school is challenging, it can be a rewarding experience if you use some foresight. These tips can help you handle the situation and make the most of your time:

·         Discuss your plans with your family. Balancing the demands of school and work is easier with their support.

·         Start slowly; don’t commit to working a lot of hours immediately.

·         Avoid time conflicts by planning your class and work schedules as far ahead of time as possible.

·         Use your time efficiently. You can use 10 minutes waiting in a line to go over a few pages of assigned reading. If your job has a lot of downtime and your boss has no objection, you can use slow periods to do schoolwork.

·         If you commute to your job on public transportation, bring your schoolwork with you so you can work along the way.

·         Be flexible and willing to make sacrifices. You may have to cut down on some other things you’d like to do because of your school and work commitments.

·         If you have too much on your plate, admit it. Then cut back as needed.

·         Schedule relaxation time. Everyone needs some downtime to stay happy and healthy.
