“Truth is the only safe ground to stand upon.”

-Elizabeth Cady Stanton

Truth is the only safe ground to stand upon, this is true because when you tell the truth, not much if anything can go wrong, to the contrary when you lie, a lot of things can go wrong, people will start doubting you, People will lose respect they have for you, you will no longer be trusted. But if you tell the truth and that is a healthy habit of yours, you are more likely to be respected, trusted, and will not be doubted.

Attention to Detail

7 of 10

When you double-check your calculation for a math problem or cite sources carefully in a research paper, you’re paying close attention to detail, That skill comes in handy in any workplace, whether you maintain a database, keep a log of the hours you spend with clients or write e-mails.

John wooden, UCLA’s former great basketball coach who lead his teams to tend consecutive national championships, was asked what he attributed his success to. Among a number of things, he mentioned that paying attention to details was one of the most important qualities for successful coaching and for high achievement in any worthwhile pursuit. He even paid attention to how his players would lace up and tie their shoe strings. If they didn’t tie them correctly, he would teach them how.

Details may be small things but from small things come great things; therefore, pay attention to details and you will experience substantial progress in your overall education attainment.

“Everyone is the architect of their own learning.”

-Claudius

Everyone is responsible for their own learning, your teachers and mentors are there to help you set a foundation, but eventually, it is on you. You are who matter’s when it comes to education, you decide if you learn or not, you will be exposed to it, the option is there, will you decide to educate yourself by paying attention and doing the work that is necessary? Or will you lack education and just lag when it comes to learning. Build your education strong, pay attention, do what is necessary, and strive for excellence.

Cool Under Pressure

6 of 10

Very few students enjoy taking tests. Yet functioning well under pressure is crucial to your future success. Try thinking of the pressure of testing as practice for the work world’s own explosive situations. You could someday find yourself meeting tight deadlines, speaking with irate customers, wielding a scalpel or handling dangerous chemicals.

The best way to curtail pressure and to even eliminate it is to prepare. Applying the motto “Be Prepared” holds true first time and every time. Prepare for that tests, and you won’t worry about it. In facts, it will be your chance to shine, to reveal the hard work you have put into preparing for the test. You will be rewarded for the effort you have thrust into your studies. Preparation removes fear. When you are prepared, you will not fear. Preparation helps you maintain your cool under pressure. Preparation generates energy and enthusiasm; therefore, prepare and your coolness under pressure is sure to abound.

“Start with what is right rather than what is acceptable.”

-Peter F. Drucker

Choose you actions wisely, choose your actions by doing what is right, not by what is acceptable, because what is acceptable is not always right.

For example, if you are with a group of friends and they offer you marijuana, smoking with them would be acceptable in their eyes, but is it the right thing to do? No, It is not, therefore do what is right, rather than what is acceptable.

Initiative

5 of 10

Initiative is creativity, inventiveness, originality, ingenuity, imagination. Every time you respond in class, every time you choose your own research topic, every time you put together your own interpretation of a piece of literature, you take initiative. And future employers value can-do professionals who come up with new ideas and chart their own courses through projects, employees who are self-reliant. Self-reliant people are self-starters who don’t procrastinate on getting the job done. They know what is required to do and do it. They don’t wait to be told many times. Succeeding in high school, college, and in the career world is taking the initiative.

-Orson Swett Marden

In order to achieve greatness you need to concentrate, you need to focus, get your priorities straight, what are you doing and why are you doing that? Are they going to help you achieve your priorities? If not, you should probably concentrate and get back on track. Make sure your time goes to a good cause, your money goes to a good cause, your energy goes to a good cause, otherwise you are not being efficient. Being efficient with your resources will help you concentrate and be on track, achieving your goals faster.

Problem-Solving Skills

4 of 10

Problem solving goes far beyond your math textbook. Every assignment is an opportunity to weigh all possible solutions carefully and choose the one you think is best. As a working professional, you’ll be solving problems regularly, whether it’s fixing a bug in a computer program or overcoming budget shortfalls. Problem solving situations occur extensively and frequently; therefore, be ready when they come.

When problems or challenges occur, some people look at them as negative experiences, as a crisis. These people are the ones who live day by day with gloom and negativism in their attitudes. But the really successful people, those who are cheerful and optimistic, are those who look at problems as opportunities, opportunities to learn, grow, expand their horizons, and make new discoveries. They look on the bright side of things and live happy lives.

“Education is a marathon—not a sprint”

-Anon

Education is a marathon and not a sprint, in the sense of what it basically is. You cannot complete an education with a short burst, it is a time consuming, long run type of thing. Just like a marathon, education takes lots of time, motivation, inspiration, energy, and dedication. You cannot cheat education by trying to sprint through it, you have to be persistent throughout you education and do what is necessary to make sure you get a good education.

Teamwork Skills

3 of 10

Every time your class breaks into groups to tackle a challenge, you build teamwork skills. In college, you’ll continue to have these opportunities to practice voicing your opinions, listening and responding to others, and reaching compromises. By the time you leave college, you can be an expert in this important workplace skill.

Together

Everyone

Achieves

More

Individually you can achieve so much, but when you work with others for a common cause, the same objectives, you can accomplish a tremendous amount more. You synergize your talents, knowledge, and skills with those whom you work. All members of the team are edified together, a type of edification you can’t obtain by working alone.

“To see what is right and not to do it is want of courage.”

-Confucius

If you know what is right, and you do not choose to do what is right, you are lacking courage, the courage to stand up and do what is right. You should always do what is right, it is the best thing you can ever do.

For example; If you see a thief attempting to rob a person of their belonging’s it is your righteous duty, if capable to physically stop them, if there is a possibility of physical harm then you can also do what is right by calling the police.
You can also do what is right by having the courage to stand up against the wrong, for say, legalizing marijuana, if you protest it, you know you are doing something right and you have the courage to go against those people who do want it legalized.

·         If there is an author listed, look for a biography that discusses the author’s education, profession and other relevant background. If there is no bio on the site, search for one elsewhere on the web.

“Gold medals don’t make champions… hard work does.”

-Anon

Gold medals don’t make champions, hard work does. Worded perfectly, this quote could not be more correct. You do not have to have gold medals or any medals at all to be a champion you just need to have the ambition to be a champion. You need to be willing and just go out there and do what needs to be done, it doesn’t matter if you lose all your games, you can still be a champion. Many people get the meaning of champion wrong, it takes a real champion to lose a game and keep their head up high, and it doesn’t take a champion to be on a winning team. If you want to be a champion do what’s right and prepare yourself to be a champion and you will become one with time. Choose the right!

Read Between the Lines

Make a judgment about the site’s reliability based on your own analysis of the site and the information it contains. Here are some ways to do this:

·         Look for facts you know or can check with a trusted source. If the site gets those facts right, it’s more likely that the other facts on the site are also accurate.

·         Study the language used. Is it angry, satiric or overly impassioned? This may indicated that the site is biased.

·         Consider whether the arguments are logical and backed up by evidence, and whether the site presents only one point of view.

·         Check the links to the sources that the author acknowledges. Scholarly writing, whether in print or online, should include a bibliography.

“Continuous effort, not strength or intelligence, is the key to unlocking our potential.”

-Liana Cordes

A lot of people are born with strength that is greater than average, or intelligence that is greater than average, but that strength or intelligence will only help you to a certain degree. You have to make sure that you are supplying those skills you have with improvements in order for them to really be a skill you have. Such as strength, you can be stronger than the average man, but that will not help you much unless you plan to be just that, stronger than the average man, but if you seek to be stronger than stronger than average men, then you need continuous effort working out and having healthy eating habits in order to unlock your potential physically.

Research with Attitude

Conduct your research with the attitude of a skeptic. As you examine websites for clues that they’re trustworthy, ask these questions:

·         Who wrote the Web page? If you can’t identify the individual or organization responsible for the information, don’t use it.

·         What are the author’s qualifications for writing on the subject?

·         Has the article passed through an editorial process designed to ensure quality and accuracy?

·         What is the website’s purpose? Look for motives – like selling products or winning votes – that could result in biased or incomplete information.

·         Is the information accurate? Is it up-to-date?

·         Where did the author get this information?

It’s Online, but Is It On Target?

Part 1

Using the Web Wisely

Thanks to the Web, information is easy to find. However, it’s also easy to post something online. Anyone can do it.

You’ve probably used the Internet to do research for paper, to help you decide which product to buy, or to form an opinion about current events. Looking up information online is fast and convenient. But when you do online research, it’s important to find sites you can trust. Many websites claim to have the facts, but are full of errors. Others present information in a biased way – they only give one side of an argument. How can you tell reliable sources from an unreliable one? Also, it is critical that you post online only that which is decent and appropriate ,never anything pornographic, vulgar, indecent, out of taste, untruthful, or obscene. Post those things that will make a good name for you and your organization, that will promote goodwill and be of benefit to the world.

“When an archer misses the mark, he turns and looks for the fault within himself. Failure to hit the bulls-eye is never the fault of the target. To improve your aim, improve yourself.”

-Gilbert Arland

Whenever you don’t achieve something, you can’t really blame it on anything but yourself, if you don’t score a goal in soccer, don’t blame it on the field, that the grass was too long, you should’ve accommodated to that and have prepared for it. You should always be prepared for the challenges and obstacles that are to coming that will try and prevent you from achieving your goals, it is your duty to prepare yourself, not anyone else's.

Friday
Friday was a very nerve racking day. I woke up around 7 Am, showered, prepared myself, made sure everything was packed and ready to go. Then my mom took me to my cousins house, whom was providing me with a ride to Arizona. After me dropping off my luggage in his house my mom dropped me off at my girlfriends house around 8:30 and I spent about an hour there watching tv and eating breakfast. Afterwards I walked my girlfriend to her school and walked back to my cousins.

At around 12 we took off to Arizona, the view was beautiful. We saw a Marine convey on the way over there, when we got there we were EXHAUSTED. We spent a little bit of time chatting with our family, putting away our clothes and luggage and suits and then just said goodnight for the day.
