“The Importance of good Sportsmanship”

Sportsmanship is important for athletes. It is not only the difference between a sore loser and a good sport but it is the difference between a player and an athlete. There are many ways sportsmanship is applied in athletic events and in all sports.

A Few Examples Are

·        In soccer if you are playing defense on an opponent and your footwork is not the best you might trip your opponent on accident. This does not mean you do not have sportsmanship; it would be an example of bad sportsmanship if you simply walked away from the accident without apologizing and helping the player get on his feet.

·        You are in a lacrosse game and you are trying to check the butt of an opponent and you accidently trip him, that does not make you a athlete with poor sportsmanship it would make you a poor athlete without good sportsmanship if you didn’t apologize and help him back up on his feet.

No matter what you accomplish, you should always be proud of yourself for what you have achieved. You should always have fun in what you do. Don’t be sad because you lost, be proud that you tried.
