It’s Online, but Is It On Target?

Part 1

Using the Web Wisely

Thanks to the Web, information is easy to find. However, it’s also easy to post something online. Anyone can do it.

You’ve probably used the Internet to do research for paper, to help you decide which product to buy, or to form an opinion about current events. Looking up information online is fast and convenient. But when you do online research, it’s important to find sites you can trust. Many websites claim to have the facts, but are full of errors. Others present information in a biased way – they only give one side of an argument. How can you tell reliable sources from an unreliable one? Also, it is critical that you post online only that which is decent and appropriate ,never anything pornographic, vulgar, indecent, out of taste, untruthful, or obscene. Post those things that will make a good name for you and your organization, that will promote goodwill and be of benefit to the world.

Summary:                                                                                                                                                                        Tony Farmer, a high ranked high school basketball player from Ohio made a big mistake when he chose the wrong, he stole his girlfriend’s keys and proceeded to drag her out of the building they were in by the hair and then kidnapped her. He was caught and is going to serve a term of 3 years in jail and 5 years of probation.

Reflection:

Tony did something very unacceptable not only did he lay his hands on a woman but he dragged her and kidnapped her, this is not math, a lot of wrongs do not counter each other to a positive, he should’ve realized what he was doing was not right. This is just evidence of no matter how good you are at something you have to be righteous otherwise you’ll just go downhill and once you go downhill is hard to climb up. CTR!

Marion Jones was a very strong and competitive athlete whom had won various medals in the Olympics and had even won 5 gold medals at once, she was really proud of what she had achieved and so were the people around her, there was a downside though, she did not achieve this in a rightful manner, she took performance enhancing drugs which helped lead to her winning these medals, they had an investigation to see if she had taken drugs and they found out that she had, she was stripped of all her Olympic medals and was sent to federal prison for 6 months.

Marion Jones clearly had the will power and strength to become a champion, but she cheated her way up and that led to her cheating leading her to come crashing back down. What goes up must come down, clearly that acted out in this example and it always will, because you cannot cheat your way to success, it will never work, whoever chooses the wrong will go down a wrongful path and destroy their life’s.

-Theodore Roosevelt

When you doubt what decision you should make, you should choose the right, because choosing the right is always the right thing to do; it will not come back and haunt you, you will not be upset you did so, you can’t really go wrong when you choose the right, because you know it was the morally right thing to do and it will have the most productive outcome.

Goals

“In life as in football, you won’t go far, unless you know where the goalposts are.”

-Arnold Glasgow

If you are not aiming for a specific target it is not likely that you will reach it because you have no sense of direction, in order to achieve a goal, you need to know what your goals are. To be successful you need to know what will make you successful and try hard to achieve those things to become successful, keep your goals in front of you and remind yourself what are your goals constantly to achieve them within a good time frame.

“Success is dependent on effort.”

-          Sophocles, Greek Dramatist

No matter how talented you are, you won’t be successful without effort; this goes hand to hand with one of my favorite quotes-

“Hard work can beat talent, if talent does not work hard enough.”, you have to prove that you want to be successful it will not be handed to you, otherwise it would not be success.

CHOOSE THE RIGHT and be successful, remember there are many forms of success, prosperity, righteousness, and health for example. To achieve different forms of success you must put in different types of effort, choose the right.

Choosing the right is the right thing to do, because it is the only thing that will always have a positive and righteous outcome no matter what, now that is now guaranteed when you choose the latter, but when you choose the right it is, that’s why you should always choose the right and be the great person you were meant to be. Organizing Your Life

Managing your time well is an important element of success – especially if you’re a student. If you set priorities that fit your needs and lifestyle, you’ll have a better chance of achieving your goals. Here are some tips for taking control of your time and organizing your life.

Tip 1. Make a To-Do List Every Day.

Put things that are most important at the top and do them first. And don’t forget to reward yourself for your accomplishments.

Tip 2. Use Spare Minutes Wisely.

When you’re commuting on the bus or train, use the time to get some reading done.
Tip 3. It’s okay to Say No.

If your friend asks you to go to a movie on a Thursday night and you have an exam the next morning, realize that it’s okay to say no. Keep your short- and long-term priorities in mind.

Tip 4. Find the Right Time.

You’ll work more efficiently if you figure out when you do your best work. For example, if your brain handles math better in the afternoon, don’t wait to do it until late at night.

“Improve begins with I.”

-Anon

Improves begins with I, this quote is saying that if you want to see improvement you must first seek and achieve improvement with yourself, positive of course. Do not expect to change or improve others, you can only Improve yourself, however you can try to improve others but if that doesn’t work don’t worry, because by improving yourself you are already helping improve others.

Loyalty and Sportsmanship

Reflection:

I believe loyalty and sportsmanship are extremely important in sports. Loyalty is important because it helps make you a better team player, since you are loyal to your team, you will respect them, treat them fairly, and kindly, like if they were family, because in a way, they are. Sportsmanship is a must and extremely important because without it you will get Nowhere coaches and players/teammates/opponents won’t like you making the possibilities of you playing for a better team or becoming a good team player extremely minimal, if you have sportsmanship it will open up many opportunities for you with your sports career.

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens

Habit 7

Part 1

Habit 7: Sharpen the saw

Teens should never get too busy living to take time to renew themselves. When teens “sharpen the saw” they are keeping their personal self-sharp so that they can better deal with life. It means regularly renewing and strengthening the four key dimensions of life – Body, mind, heart, and soul.

1) Body. Eat wholesome foods, fruits, vegetables, legumes. Avoid illegal drugs, smoking, alcohol, tobacco products, tattooing. Exercise regularly and effectively. Get plenty of rest at night. Get to bed early at night and get up early each morning. “Early to bed early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise”

2) Mind. Think positively. Read. Study. Think. Analyze. Seek to read a good book each month. Then each week, Ask intelligent questions. Observe. Develop your mind through positive “self-talk.”

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens

Habit 5

5. Seek First to Understand, and then to be Understood

Because most people don’t listen very well, one of the great frustrations in life is that many don’t feel understood. This habit will ensure your teen learns the most important communication skill there is: active listening.

Why is this habit key to communication? It’s because the deepest need of the human heart is to be understood. Everyone wants to be respected and valued for who they are- a unique, one-of-a-kind, never-to-be-cloned individual. People won’t expose their soft middles unless they feel genuine love and understanding. Once they feel it, however, they will tell you more than you may want to hear. People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.

Listen with your eyes, heart, and ears. 7 percent of communication is contained in the words we use. The rest comes from body language (53 percent) and how we say words, or the tone and feeling reflected in our voice (40 percent). Most people are eager to talk and had rather talk than listen. We have on mouth and two ears. This means we should listen twice as much as we talk. We actually learn more while listening rather than when we talk. Learn to listen and listen to learn. Listen, really listen, for understanding. Seek first to understand then to be understood- LISTEN.

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens

Habit 3

Habit 3: Put First Things First

Habit three is about Will and Will Not power. This habit helps teen prioritize and manage their time so that they focus on and complete the most important things in their lives. Putting first things first also means learning to overcome fears and being strong during difficult times. It’s living life according to what matters most. Putting first deals with things that are:

Important or not important, urgent or not urgent. Let’s look at the four quadrant of time management.

Quadrant 1: Things that are Important and Urgent

Quadrant 2: Things that are Important but not Urgent

Quadrant 3: Things that are Not Important but are Urgent

Quadrant 4: Things that are not Important and Not Urgent

1.       Important & Urgent

2.       Important but not Urgent
3.       Not Important but are Urgent

4.       Not Important and Not Urgent

Quadrant 2 is the ideal place to spend our time, doing things that are important but not urgent. Here’s where priorities come into play. The results for living Quadrant 2 are:

1.       Control of your life

2.       Balance

3.       High Performance

So, in what quadrant are you spending most of your time? The key is to shift as much time as possible into Quadrant 2 and this is accomplished by planning. Spend more time planning and incorporating the most important things first, things that matter most. Keep your eyes on the prize and reach for it.

                                                 Student Success Statement

“The only difference between those who have failed and those who have succeeded lies in the difference of their habits. Good habits are the key to all success. Bad habits are the unlocked door to failure, thus, the first law I will obey, which precedeth all others is- ‘I will form good habits and become their slaves.’ ”

-OG Mandino

Good habits are important, as is succeeding for the right reasons. If you have good habits you are more likely to be successful because those goods habits are the ones that will help lead and push you to be successful.

For example,

You have an appointment for a job interview at 6 am in the morning.

You have a good habit of sleeping early therefore you wake up early as well. You sleep at 9:30 PM and wake up at 5:30 AM, this is a good habit that will help you be successful because of this habit you will most likely be on time to your job interview.

Now for a negative example, let’s say you are used to staying awake until 12Am playing video games and are used to waking up at 11 Am, This is a bad habit that will be counterproductive and you will most likely miss your job interview because of this habit, therefore crushing the chances of you getting that job that could of led to you being successful in life in a prosperous way.

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens

Habit 2

Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind

IF teens aren’t clear about where they want to end up in life, about their values, goals, and what they stand for, they will wander, waste time, and be tossed to and fro by the opinions of others. Help your teen create a personal mission statement which will act as a road map and direct and guide his decision-making process.

“Keep your eyes on the prize.” Determine your desired prize and don’t quit until you have realized the achievement of your prize. Then set another prize, another goal or desire that you would really like to achieve. Begin with the achievement of your prize in mind. Visualize and then realize. Start by having a target in mind; know where you are going.

One prize or goal you definitely need to establish for yourself is the prize of an honorable graduation from high school-that you will receive your diploma honestly and with integrity- that you earned it with perfect honestly

“Whether I fail or succeed shall be no man’s doing but my own. I am the force.”

-Elaine Maxwell

Your life does not completely depend on others, it is YOUR’s so if you want something, YOU have to make it happen, not others, Earn what you want, do not expect it to be given to you, because chances are it’s not going to be handed to you without you putting some effort into achieving what you want. When wanting something make sure you out the initiative into earning it, put in the work and enjoy the fruits of your labor. Do not blame others if you slacked off and are not satisfied with what you have earned, because that is simply that, what you have earned. Choose the right.

“Keep your eyes on the prize”

-Anon

To be successful, you should keep your eyes on your current target, remind yourself daily what your target is and what you should be doing in order to reach it, otherwise you can find yourself distracted constantly. If you are distracted then you will not reach your goal and/or it will take you a longer period of time to achieve it. Keep your eyes on the prize and you will reach the prize with time.

An example of keeping your eyes on the prize is for example, if my goal is a 100% on a test tomorrow, and some friends invite me to go hang out, yes hanging out will benefit me socially, but will it help me achieve my goal? If it won’t then It would be best to skip it and maybe hang out with them after the test.
